The Catalan club are desperate to keep hold of the Brazil captain. They will reportedly take extreme measures to make sure he stays at the Nou Camp beyond this summer.
Neymar previously signed a five-year contract with Barcelona when he arrived from Santos in June 2013. Consistent talks are ongoing regarding a new deal through until the year 2021.
The front page of Spain’s Mundo Deportivo newspaper on Tuesday strongly leads with Barcelona’s ‘top secret’ offer to Neymar. It includes an ‘escape clause’ of €220m (£174m) – second only to the superstar Lionel Messi at the Nou Camp. Neymar’s clause now is €190m (£153m).
There is optimism on all sides that the 24-year-old will sign the improved deal. The confirmation is expected before the start of next season.
There have been recent reports of serious interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. But Barcelona are keen to keep their star attacking trident of Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez together.
Mundo Deportivo also report that Neymar’s buyout clause will remain below Messi’s no matter what. It is so in order to keep the Argentine as the club’s most significant player.
In April, Neymar’s current contract was revealed by Football Leaks. It emerged the Barcelona star earns just £77,000 a week. That was in spite of being one of the main men at the club.
Suarez’s basic wage is said to be north of £200,000. Neymar’s strike partner Messi apparently earns more than £250,000 excluding tax.
Neymar, though, is able to earn a considerable amount more than his basic wage. It is owing to a number of bonuses inserted into his contract.
